This assessment manual is written for practitioners who have knowledge of adult literacy theory and some experience in conducting assessment interviews with learners registering in an adult literacy program. It is designed to help assessors gather pertinent information from learners, interpret information about learners' goals and learning background, determine skill levels and identify learning needs, and place learners into appropriate learning environments. Initial assessment, ongoing assessment and exit assessment are covered, and are aligned with the Manitoba Stages Framework. Assessment forms and tools are included.
