Someone like me / Tom Holt.

Holt, Tom, 1961- (Author).

Summary:

Nobody knows where they come from or what they want. The creatures are killing humans for meat and nobody, it seems, can stop them. Now one mana hunter by tradehas trapped one of the creatures. Under the ground, they face each other. And only one of them will get out alive. This quick read for adults is written at a Grade 4 level.
"The story is about a man who works as a hunter and who needs to hunt for creatures. This man started finding lots of dead bodies with ugly skeletons. It is all bloody on the ground when he walks through some dark places, where those dead bodies around. One night, he had to go to the dark tunnel to search and hunt for the creatures. In the tunnel, he couldn’t see a thing because it was too dark. Suddenly, he felt something came towards him, and it is just a dead woman’s body. Afterwards, creatures came and attacked the man. He grabbed his knife, trying to stab the creature, but the creature is too strong. His right arm is weak. The man got scared, he wants to get out of the tunnel, and the creature chases after him. The man found his way out of the water, but he couldn’t go too far, since he couldn’t swim. The creature can’t swim too. He sees the creature getting weak when it is in the water. So the man pulled himself up to drag the creature down the water. The creature screamed and gurgled. Then it says “Please don’t hurt me.” The man never knew it can talk. So the man stop dragging the creature down into the water. After all, they started not hunting for each other and free each other because they know this is all a mistaken thing to do. When I first read “ Someone” Like Me , I thought it was boring, but when I continued reading, then I realized it is a scary story. I like reading scary stories. This story is interesting, especially, the part when the man is trapped into the tunnel with the creature, and they are fighting against each other. In the middle of the story, it is really interesting because it is the main part of the story. The creature is not a creature; it is half human, since it can talk." – October 2008 Exemplary Literacy Materials Online Reviews.
