Spell right! : endings

Summary: An interactive CD-ROM based on the well-known Spell-Write book which runs on PC and Mac. This CD-ROM is fun, highly visual and interactive for home or school use. Suitable for ages 8+. Students can: direct their own learning by selecting the word list they want to practise; work in an interactive way with prompt feedback; work at their own pace; pretest words; practice words until they are confident to test them. Simple clues for adding endings are provided. The words for each ending come up at random each time so that students can expect to practise their endings in a different order each time they use the CD. There is a range of self-select activities for each stage of learning. Each activity is brief so that students quickly gain a sense of mastery. Instructions for each activity are easy to follow. Feedback is given at each stage to enhance learning. There is an audio option so that students can hear, as well as see, each word. Sound effects provide additional interest for students without being distracting. Words for each session are recorded and can be printed off at the end. This is a tool designed for younger learners but may be appropriate for anyone learning to spell in English, either as a new reader or as an English language learner.
