Canadian Language Benchmarks "can do" statements. Cover Image E-book E-book

Canadian Language Benchmarks [electronic resource] : "can do" statements.

Summary:

The Can Do Statements are based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB). They describe what learners can do at benchmarks 1 to 12 in the skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. The purpose of these statements is to present some of the information in the CLB document in language that is accessible to learners. The statements can help to facilitate discussions with learners about what they have accomplished and what they still need to develop.
"I have used the Canadian Language Benchmark’s “Can Do” statements for ESL learners and found them to be very effective. They allow the learner to begin by identifying all the things they can do rather than beginning with what they can’t. Once I used these statements by mistake with a young man with very low literacy skills. I had intended to use a different assessment tool but afterwards I reflected that I had unintentionally used the ‘right’ one for him." – April 2009 Exemplary Literacy Materials Online Reviews.
