This manual serves as a tool for ESL teachers to assess student achievement in adult ESL classrooms. Based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks, it is intended to help teachers measure students learning outcomes by selecting specific theme units for instruction and the related SAM task for assessing achievement afterwards. Not intended for ESL literacy students, this is a tool for adult ESL students whose reading/writing difficulties do not arise from their literacy needs in their first language.
