Spare parts / story by Chris Malakar ; pictures by Moira Hanrahan.
Spare Parts is the story of a man, a woman, and an old, broken down car. When Debbie gets a brand new car and wants to park it in the garage, Jim's reluctance to move his junk car causes problems. She must make a decision about what should be done. This is an easy-to-read story written for new readers at an intermediate level, part of PRACE Page Turners Series 2. It is rated at a level three (of four) in the PRACE Pageturners, with 2-5 simple sentences per page, and has a readability of grades 2-3.
"I would use this book as a free reader for those who are able and ask them to tell me the story afterwards - or one-on-one with a reader who needs help. The book has less then 40 words per 2 pages and lots of good line drawings to illustrate the story. The gentle humour will call forth stories from the readers of similar situations they have been in." – November 2008 Exemplary Literacy Materials Online Reviews.
