Seeing the need, meeting the need : a report on recruitment and retention issues in literacy and basic skills programs

Summary: The goal of this project was to talk to people who were starting to attend community-based, school board and college literacy programs in order to find out why they had decided to join. The students in the study were re-contacted halfway through the study, and again at the end of the study to find out if they were still in the program and to talk about their experiences. Interviews were conducted by professional interviewers and by LBS students trained as interns for the project.
